Given new hybrid learning models, parent-teacher partnerships have never mattered more. Share what you’ve noticed about your child’s learning and ask what’s most important to help at home. By having a shared understanding of how your child is progressing at the beginning of the year you can partner to meet your child’s social, emotional, and academic needs.

Here are 3 simple steps to help you partner with your child’s teacher.

Pinpoint academic needs.

Use the Readiness Check to see how your child is doing with key math and reading skills needed for success this year! It only takes a few minutes and you get connected to resources and activities to help learning at home.

As you watch your child take the Readiness Check, notice…

  • Where did they do well?
  • Where did they need help?

Pay attention to life skills.

What is your child excited to learn about?  What have you noticed about their learning at home?  As your child reads, plays with educational apps, or interacts with family and friends (even virtually), notice how they are learning and acting.

  • My child is doing well and enjoys…
  • My child needs help with…
  • Changes I’ve noticed in my child since school closures include (this can include academically or socially and emotionally)…

Partner up on a plan.

Find out what is expected of your child this year and how you can help at home.

  • How will you know where my child needs more help, especially given school closures last year?
  • What are the most important skills my child needs to learn this year?
  • How can I support these skills at home?

By continuing to pay attention to your child’s progress and learning needs, you are preparing them for next year as well as their next big milestone like moving into 4th grade, middle school, and high school. Through these transitions, and especially during the changes due to remote learning, your child is taking on new challenges but your support makes all the difference. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and information.

You are your child’s learning hero!
